I’m looking forward to using this space to post about things relevant to therapy, being a clinician, teaching…as well as about other ideas and thoughts that relate to the common good that is between and among us.

And for my first official post, I would like to introduce you to one of my new favorite websites: www.calm.com

At a training I attended this past weekend, a colleague recommended this site for simple meditations. I jumped on it the first opportunity I had.

It’s simple structure and design make it particularly inviting. The background images display different nature and calming scenes while meditation music plays. You can chose to engage in a 2, 5, 10, 15, or 20 minute guided meditation, or just to listen to the music and view the display for the same time spans.

Before beginning either meditation, you’re prompted to chose your nature scene, put your headphones in if you have them, and “ensure you are free from distractions”. The guided meditations will take you though some relaxation exercises while a timer discretely counts down in the lower left hand corner of the page.

The images displayed are quite serene and the music is enjoyable as well. If the music isn’t your thing, you can opt to have nature sounds play. For example, as we speak a image of rain falling on leaves in a forest is displayed and the sound of rain is filling my speakers.

This simple website makes it easy for you to take a brief break from your day, to reconnect with yourself, and to breathe deeply. Surely you can find 2 minutes to do so?! I am confident you can and I also plan to challenge myself to do so.
